Mission
The Community Seismic Network ("CSN") is a low-cost, MEMS-sensor and cloud-based, strong-motion seismic network whose mission is to:
- Provide maps of maximum shaking immediately following a major earthquake to help direct first responders.
- Monitor the health and safety of structures.
- Create zonation maps of shaking potential in populated areas.
- Provide data for the ShakeAlert earthquake early warning system.
CSN is a collaborative research effort between Caltech and UCLA involving academic civil engineers, seismologists, and computer scientists.
