The Community Seismic Network (“CSN”) is a collaborative research effort between Caltech and UCLA involving academic civil engineers, seismologists, and computer scientists.

CSN is a low-cost, MEMS sensor and cloud-based strong-motion seismic network whose mission is to:

  1. Provide maps of maximum shaking immediately following a major earthquake to help direct first responders.
  2. Monitor the health and safety of structures.
  3. Create zonation maps of shaking potential in populated areas.
  4. Provide data for the ShakeAlert earthquake early warning system.

CSN is grateful for support from:
Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, Pacific Gas & Electric Company, Computers and Structures, Inc., and Southern California Gas Company.
